In 2019, Lao Cai has supported rural people to build 309 small-scale biomass energy systems of less than 50 m3. Thus, from 2013 to date, this locality has built and installed 3,719 systems, exceeding 15 works compared to the assigned plan. Lao Cai is one of ten provinces that the Ministry of Culture and Rural Development has chosen to participate in a project, funded by the Asian Development Bank, on low carbon agriculture. Biogas produced will be use in cooking, therefore reducing the cost while still maintaining clean air for the local. Mrs. Pham Thi Hoa, Deputy Head of the Project Management Board, said that after 6 years of implementation, the project activities have changed the local people’s awareness in environmental treatment, livestock waste treatment, composting products and other products.
In addition, in 2019, the program also installed 48 models of livestock waste treatment, including biomass power generation. It is expected that the program will install 60 more systems in 2020.
